Vertical Platform Lifts
Vertical platform lifts function more like an elevator in your home or commercial space, providing easy access for the widest array of situations. These lifts can be installed indoors or outdoors for safe vertical movement without leaving the comfort of a wheelchair or scooter.
FAQs about Vertical Platform Lifts
1. What is the weight capacity of a vertical platform wheelchair lift?
Most high-quality vertical wheelchair platform lifts, including our popular Bruno VPL models, feature a standard lifting capacity of 750 lbs (340 kg). This robust capacity is designed to safely support the combined weight of the user and their mobility device, such as a walker, scooter, power or manual chair.
2. How is a vertical wheelchair lift different from a home elevator?
Like a small elevator, a vertical platform lift gives vertical access to people using scooters or wheelchairs. Platform lifts are commonly used to provide access between the ground level and a porch or deck or levels within the home or commercial space, and are considered a space-efficient solution in comparison to a ramp. Vertical platform wheelchair lifts are also considerably more cost-efficient than residential elevators.
3. What safety features do home vertical platform lifts have?
Vertical platform lifts include a control inside of the cab and an emergency stop switch. At the top landing, there should always be a landing gate or door to prevent someone from falling from the landing when the lift is in the lowered position. An obstruction safety sensor located under the platform prevents the unit from running down if there is an object under it. Additional features for a platform lift can include a folding ramp to safely enter and exit the unit. They can also include platform gates for added safety and complete enclosures when necessary.
4. How long does it take to install a platform lift at home?
Vertical platform lifts normally do not take very long to install. It can take between 1 and 5 days to complete an installation, and the installers will ensure that your lift meets all safety and code requirements. NSM’s certified professionals take care of everything from evaluation to installation and routine maintenance.
