CRT BENEFIT LEGISLATION PASSES IN WISCONSIN, SIGNED BY GOVERNOR SCOTT WALKER

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 18, 2018) – Legislation recognizing Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) as a separate Medicaid benefit category was passed in Wisconsin and signed into law by Governor Scott Walker. The bill, founded by Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) solutions provider, National Seating & Mobility (NSM), has been an 18-month initiative of an industry coalition including NSM, The National Coalition for Assistive and Rehab Technology (NCART), Ki Mobility, and Comfort Company.

The passage of the Wisconsin Assembly Bill AB‐462, and its companion Senate Bill SB‐381, establishes separate recognition and policies for CRT within the Wisconsin Medicaid program. The legislation protects access to critical products and related services for individuals with significant disabilities, benefitting the participants with disabilities in the Medicaid Program and the state.

“We were honored to stand alongside Governor Walker to witness the adoption of CRT legislation protecting individuals with disabilities in Wisconsin,” said Ryan Peebles, NSM Director of Government Affairs. “Our coalition has worked tirelessly for more than 18 months to advance education about the complexity of CRT solutions and the unique needs of individuals with disabilities who are in need of those services and products.”

In addition to providing better protection and outcomes for Medicaid beneficiaries with significant disabilities who require CRT products and services, the bill recognizes the specialized nature of CRT, establishing CRT product and services as different than standard durable medical equipment. It also establishes CRT supplier standards providing beneficiary and program safeguards, incorporating those already in place within the federal Medicare program for CRT.

“NSM is committed to advocate on behalf of individuals with disabilities,” said Peebles. “Today was certainly a milestone moment for our work on behalf of our clients, but we know there’s much more work to be done.”
