Getting a mobility product, especially if it is your first, can be a daunting process. Explore the steps involved and the role of each person on your care team.

STEP 1: STARTING YOUR ORDER
Your Fitting and Evaluation
Estimated Timing: 2 days - 1 week
What Happens:
Once NSM has received your referral, an evaluation with an NSM Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) is scheduled in partnership with your referring therapist and/or physician.
At the evaluation your ATP discusses your needs, lifestyle, and measures you for your equipment.
Once the evaluation has been completed, your ATP works to specify each component needed for your custom equipment, and identifies a manufacturer for each component, seeks pricing, and availability.
What You Can Do:
Provide NSM with the best mobile number to stay in contact with you. You will receive a text to this number to complete registration paperwork, and providing a copy of your insurance card, via a HIPAA-secure portal.
Contact NSM if any of your contact and/or insurance information changes to avoid any delays in proceeding with your order.
What is your care team doing?

Completing the evaluation and designing the agreed upon mobility equipment.
Referring Therapist and/or Physician
Coordinating evaluation appointment time with Assistive Technology Professional.

STEP 2: Collecting Insurance Documentation
Getting Ready for Funding
Estimated Timing : 2 - 8 weeks
What happens:
NSM is working to collect the required information and documents from your referring physician and therapist, which are needed for your insurance provider and/or alternate payor source approval. The approval is needed before we can purchase the items needed to complete your order.
What you can do:
Call your referring physician and therapist and ask that they send the documents to your NSM branch as soon as possible.
Once you confirm the documents have been sent by your physician and therapist, let your NSM branch know.

What is your care team doing?

Working with your Referring Therapist and/or Physician to collect all required information and documents, and that they will meet your insurance provider or alternative payor source requirements.
Referring Therapist and/or Physician
Provide NSM a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN), your Medical Records, and a Detailed Written Order.

STEP 3: Awaiting Insurance Approval
Getting Your Chair Funded
Estimated Timing : 2 - 8 weeks
What happens:
Your insurance provider is reviewing the order and supporting documentation to determine whether they will approve the order.
What you can do:
Contact your insurance companies to follow up on their funding decision.

Reviewing your documentation and making a funding decision.

Submitting your paperwork and awaiting approval.

STEP 4: Insurance Approval Received
Time to Order Your Chair!
Estimated Timing: 2 - 6 weeks
What happens:
NSM orders all the components of your order.
We ensure the components are received and correct before beginning assembly.

Contact your local branch if you are concerned about a delay.

STEP 5: Preparing for Delivery
Some Assembly Required
Estimated Timing: 1 - 3 weeks
What happens:
We are ensuring all required documents for delivery have been submitted and approved by your insurance provider.
We are assembling your equipment
Once assembled, we perform a quality inspection before we contact you to schedule your delivery date.

Ensuring all your components are correct, and assembling and testing your equipment.

STEP 6: Order Delivered
Time for Your New Chair
Estimated Timing: 1 day
What happens:
We will work with you and your referring therapist to schedule a delivery appointment.
At the appointment, your ATP will make sure your equipment fits and works as expected, and will walk through safety and equipment training.
What you can do:
Have your schedule available when we call to set your appointment.
